Introduction to Genres and Styles of Drama

The topics of genre and style have traditionally provided the basis for courses in dramatic literature and criticism. They have also been the subjects of countless books and articles. A direct outcome of all this attention is that many terms and definitions are available for inspection. In the interests of brevity, however, this appendix treats only major genres and styles and mainstream viewpoints.
