Consequences for stakeholders

Following the arguments in this book, it becomes evident that scientific information has been dominated over many decades of the paper age by one business model: the subscription model. It is only recently, with the advent of the digital age, that an alternative concept has been proposed, open access, but to date it has had limited although slowly increasing success.
