Organization of Industrial Research: The Early History of CSIR, 1934–47

For the last 50 years, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has been a major agency for the promotion and direction of industrial research in India. The overall organizational structure of CSIR and the pattern of its administration were the creation of the British colonial government. CSIR was founded in 1942 on the ‘model’ of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), established in Britain during World War I.
