PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION

On the eve of the launch of the first edition of School Without Walls in 2002, I made an oblique reference to the Common School System (CSS) and its nexus with the concept and strategies of Inclusive Education (IE). Following the release function, I received a number of calls from colleagues in the academic community to express their surprise (and satisfaction) on hearing about CSS from a ‘bureaucrat’! Since then, it has been my endeavour to convey the idea of CSS and IE interchangeably through seminars, conferences and articles.
