7.2. Capacity Planning and Adequate Capacity

Capacity planning is the process of predicting when future load levels will saturate the system and of determining the most cost-effective way of delaying system saturation as much as possible [6] [7]. Future load levels are generally a function of a combination of three factors: natural evolution of existing workloads, deployment of new applications and services, and changes in customer behavior.
