2.10. Concluding Remarks

Understanding the behavior of customers is paramount to the proper sizing of the resources of an e-commerce site as well as for achieving the business goals of the virtual store. Customers interact with an e-commerce site through sequences of requests to execute various functions. Each of these functions exercise the resources of the e-commerce server in a different way. Some may be more CPU intensive, others more I/O intensive, and others may demand a lot of network resources. Understanding how customers interact with a site allows us to determine how often these functions are used per visit to a site, the average number of functions executed per visit, and how often customers buy when they visit the site.
