Control Regime

Abstract

This chapter presents the concept of control regime and the need to identify the regime controlling a model before using that model to scale a prototype. We generally represent the individual steps of a process with an overall rate constant. The overall heat transfer coefficient is such a constant, as is the overall reaction rate constant. Inverting an overall rate constant shows it to be a composite resistance. In other words, we can represent each step of a process as a resistance and sum those resistances to obtain an overall resistance.
