7 The connectivity environment
This chapter provides an introduction to how formation of link and network connectivity and topology will be addressed in this analysis (Figure 7.1). We start with a consideration of the constraints imposed by information theory, and some candidate architectures for creating connectivity between source and destination, and develop the general requirements for link operation, and a characterization of topology alternatives that trade range, data rate, and spectrum resources.
