5.1 Introduction to wireless physical-layer environments

This chapter provides an examination of the noise and interference environment and its effect on equipment operation (Figure 5.1). The non-induced environment (preceding the deployment of the cognitive network under analysis) is characterized by empirical analysis of real-world spectrum measurements and of the additional perceived signals generated due to the inherent limitations on receiver linearity.
