Summary

In this chapter, we have covered the fundamentals of Master Data Management and discussed the various IT and Business Scenarios that exist for an MDM implementation within an organization.

Firstly we listed the basic components within an MDM environment such as the MDM server, console, clients, DBMS engine, and the auxiliary MDM components. Then we moved on to the typical characteristics of what makes an MDM repository tick. Finally, we closed with touching upon the repository structure, the various types of tables, and some key capabilities supported by an MDM repository.

In the next chapter, we will introduce the SAP MDM Console application and learn about its features and settings.
