This chapter discusses the SAP wide area network infrastructure again with respect to performance (response time), total cost of ownership (TCO), and ability to support mission-critical applications (availability). However, there will not be discussion of the art-of-WAN design and the correspondingly elaborate router configuration. This is beyond the scope of this book and remains the task of experts. Instead, we will discuss the criteria you should consider when you choose a connection and the pros and cons of available WAN technologies.
