As with every computer network, a logical naming and address structure is necessary for a network infrastructure for SAP. Because of the multi-tiered architecture, a multitude of data packets travel the network at any given point in time and must find their destination over sometimes complex routes. There are no dedicated connections for communication as in telephone systems. Just like automobiles on the roadways, all data packets share common paths.
