The SVC command line interface ( CLI) guide recommends that you suspend I/ O operations at the host level. The recommended way to quiesce the I/ O is to take the volume groups offline, remove the saved configuration ( AIX ODM) entries, such as HDisks and vpaths for those that are planned for removal, and then gracefully shut down the hosts.
