Understanding the Commons
The Wikimedia Commons, often called just the Commons, is a central repository of media files—images, audio, and video. It’s a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, the parent organization of Wikipedia and include more than 4.5 million media files.
Files uploaded to the Commons are available for free downloading for personal use and for use in Wikipedia articles. For a file to be uploaded to the Commons, it must be in the public domain or licensed for free use.
