You can use Photoshop for years and never use a mask—but you’ll get a lot more done if you learn how to create and apply masks. Painting or cloning next to an object you don’t want to change? Be sure to mask the object so you won’t accidentally paint over it, just the way you mask woodwork when you’re painting a wall. Changing the color of the sky?
