In this hour, we look at the Internet in more detail. Using the general concepts outlined in previous hours, we examine how traffic is transported across the Internet through Internet service providers (ISPs) and Internet Exchange Points (IXPs). We examine ideas on how to select an ISP and how we might exploit the features of the Internet Protocol (IP), the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to provide better performance.
