Workshop

  • At the command line of your computer, enter the command ping localhost and write down the IP address that you see.

  • At the command line of your computer, enter the command hostname and write down the hostname that is returned.

  • Enter a ping command followed by the hostname for your computer.

  • If your computer has a domain name, ping your FQDN.

  • Determine whether IP is configured to use a DNS server. If so, try the following pings:

    ping www.internic.net
    ping www.whitehouse.gov
  • Use NSLookup to connect to one of your ISP’s DNS servers.
