Proxy Service

A firewall is at the center of a whole collection of technologies designed to protect and simplify the internal network and confine the unpredictable and potentially insecure Internet activity to the perimeter. Another related technology is known as proxy service. A proxy server intercepts requests for Internet resources and forwards the requests on behalf of the client, acting as an intermediary between the client and the server that is the target of the request (See Figure 10.6).
