Working with the Taskbar and Jump Lists

Windows 7’s taskbar can do much more than in previous versions of Windows. When you start a program with Windows 7, it places an icon for that program on the taskbar. You can also place icons on the taskbar to provide shortcuts to programs not currently running to make them easier to launch. An icon on the taskbar with a box around it indicates that the program is currently running.

When you start a program, it is automatically added to the taskbar. To keep the program on the taskbar, right-click the program icon and select Pin This Program to Taskbar.
