Monitoring the System

One of the tasks of the System Administrator is to perform general system maintenance on your SAP system. System monitoring designed to ensure the availability of SAP to its end users is the primary maintenance function. In the course of system monitoring, the System Administrator watches over a list of the active SAP instances and their services, looking to ensure that these resources are indeed “up” and available (see Figure 15.1); such fundamental oversight is performed by an SAP Basis Administrator. As you learned earlier, the term Basis is used by SAP AG to encompass management of SAP from a technical or technology-stack perspective.
