Appendix B. Working with the Apache Web Server

Throughout this book, you've learned how to work with Unix to increase the efficiency of your system. In the last few lessons, that has been extended to include the Great Beyond, the Internet. What you might not have realized, however, is that the history of the Internet is intimately intertwined with the Unix operating system, and to this day the vast majority of websites run Unix or Linux as their underlying operating system.

Various Web server packages are available for Unix, the most popular of which is robust, capable, easy to configure, and free: the Apache Web Server.
