Lesson 6. Working with the Shell

In this lesson, you will expand on the last lesson and learn how to create and delete data from your Unix system.

In the last lesson we ended by talking about finding files within KDE. In this lesson, we focus primarily on the shell prompt and discuss how to manage data (files and directories) using the power of the Unix command line. We will also cover how to make directories and remove them.

Why would you want to do this? Well, there are many reasons. If you work with a very large amount of data, just having it organized in directories with names that correspond to your work or organization can save you a lot of time when trying to find data.
