Exploring a SharePoint Site Home Page

The first thing a user sees when he or she accesses a SharePoint site is the home page. Because first impressions are extremely important, it goes without saying that that home page should contain valuable information and be visually appealing. Fortunately for most of us, SharePoint takes a lot of the grunt work out of creating a useful home page, and it allows most Administrators to create useful and functional home pages without a degree in web design.

Home pages in Windows SharePoint Services vary slightly in look and feel, but they all have essentially the same components. For a review of the components on the page, reference Lesson 1, “Introduction to SharePoint 2003.”
