Summary
This lesson provides an overview of what metadata is and how it can be used in a document library. Metadata is not a new concept. It is simply data about data, as discussed in this lesson when we looked at the properties information that can be attached to a Word 2003 file. The document library used as an example here had several new columns added to it to enable users of the library to more easily find the documents they are looking for, and to better manage stores of information. This lesson scratches the surface of the topic of metadata but hopefully makes it less intimidating and gives you some ideas about how to use it productively.
