Chapter 19. Database Monitoring Tools

DB2 provides several tools to help you determine your specific performance requirements. You will learn how to use the following tools:

  • Health Monitor, which enables you to monitor a DB2 instance by allowing you to create alerts and notifications if an alert threshold is exceeded

  • Database System Monitor, a collecton of APIs that enable you to gather information on what’s occurring in the system, either at a single point in time (snapshot monitoring) or over a period of time (event monitoring)

  • Visual Explain, which enables you to graphically see the access plan the DB2 optimizer has selected for a given SQL statement
