  • chat— A text-based interactive discussion.

  • email— An electronic message sent from one user to another on a network or the Internet.

  • Network Access Point (NAP)— A facility that connects Internet backbone networks.

  • newsgroup— An online bulletin board where users with a common interest can post messages and receive responses.

  • newsreader— A client application that participates in a newsgroup.

  • Point of Presence (POP)— An attachment point to the Internet leased by an ISP.

  • World Wide Web— A client/server process that uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
