Summary

This hour covered some of the basics of dial-up networking. You learned about modems, point-to-point connections, and host dial-up access. This hour also discussed the two most important TCP/IP dial-up protocols: SLIP and PPP. You learned about SLIP data format and some of SLIP's weaknesses. You also learned about the newer and more powerful PPP protocol, which provides dynamic configuration and supports multiple protocol suites.
