Installing the .NET Framework

The first step in serving ASP.NET pages from your personal computer is installing the .NET Framework, which is included on the accompanying CD. The .NET Framework comes in two flavors. The first, called the .NET Framework SDK (for software development kit), contains the .NET Framework, full documentation, samples, tutorials, a free database product called Microsoft Database Engine (MSDE), and other goodies. The.NET Framework SDK is packaged into a single file called setup.exe, which is a 131MB file. This file is included on the accompanying CD and is the file you should run to install the .NET Framework if your computer's operating system is Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
