Hour 18. Working with Relational Databases

These days, most complex Web sites use a relational database for data storage. They are widely used to store transaction data and user account information, and in many cases, they’re used to store the actual content that will be published on the Web site as well. Over the course of the next two hours, I’ll explain how relational databases work, and how you can build Web applications that use relational databases. In this hour you’ll learn:

  • What the relational model for databases is

  • Structured Query Language (SQL)—the means to accessing data in a relational database

  • How the database design process works

  • What types of data are supported by relational databases
