The purpose of this hour was to illustrate how session management works using a real world example. Shopping carts are a feature common to almost all electronic commerce sites, and are one of the classical cases of an application that must keep track of the user’s session. In these examples, you learned how cookies are used to keep track of a user’s identity as they use an online catalog, and how that identity is correlated with data stored on the server.
