Summary

This hour contains the first in-depth example in the book. It demonstrated how to use several programs in concert to create a fairly robust online message board that you can use on your Web site. It also demonstrated how to apply a number of important concepts in real-world applications, including how to create unique filenames and how to create and modify files from within a CGI script. It also contained an example of a simple parser that was used to translate topics from an established format to a data structure accessible from a Perl program. Even if the discussion board isn’t useful to you directly, you can mine useful information out of this hour that applies to the scripts that you are writing.
