| A1: | Yes, there are quite a few. Two popular alternatives to sendmail are qmail and postfix. sendmail has a reputation not entirely unjustified for being insecure and is also notoriously difficult to configure. Other MTAs that have appeared address both of those problems. Because sendmail has been around so long and is so well-known, it’s still the most popular MTA by far. It is also very well maintained, and security holes are closed as fast as they are found. Even so, some sites have chosen to go with these other MTAs.
