Summary

The purpose of this hour was to provide you with the information you need to set up an environment where you can run CGI scripts. It’s pointless to write CGI scripts if you don’t have anywhere to put them once they’re written. This hour discussed some options for hosting CGI scripts. You also learned about the most popular operating systems for Web servers, and how Web servers work. Finally, you learned how to install the Apache Web server and ActiveState Perl on a computer running Windows, and how to test your CGI environment to make sure that it works properly.
