Web-Server Operating Systems

One issue you have to deal with when you write CGI programs is which operating system you’re going to use. The operating system affects which Web server software you can use, and which programming languages are available for writing CGI programs. Different Web servers are accessed and managed differently as well. I’m going to discuss three Web-server operating systems specifically in this hour. The two most popular platforms for serving Web content are Windows and UNIX. I’ll include the Mac in the UNIX category now that Mac OS X is based on BSD UNIX.
