Types of Web Applications

A Web application is like any other application, except that the interface for it is provided through the browser. Originally, Web applications were generally used for functions that are unique to the Web site feedback forms, online discussion boards, and shopping carts for electronic commerce sites. However, the world of Web application programming has matured, and now there are Web-based replacements for many desktop applications. People use the Web to manage their calendars and contacts, to locate places using online mapping services, and to read their email.
