Common Services and the Daemons That Love Them

Following are some common services, listing the daemons that make them run, as well as some daemon-handling tips.

BIND (named)

Certain really important daemons run on their own, namely the DNS naming daemon (named), also sometimes known as in.named. You can stop and restart these in the same way as with httpd, earlier, without worrying about what other services might be affected.

The named process is part of a package called BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Daemon), which has several major revisions that are still in use.
