Shared Ethernet Characteristics

First of all, what does a shared network mean? And how does a shared Ethernet share?

A network that uses shared media is also called a broadcast network because all traffic is universally receivable by all nodes on that network bus. The bus (also called the segment) is the collection of everything that ties these nodes together (typically hubs). This is opposed to a point-to-point network like your PC’s dialup connection, where only your PC and the dialup server see the traffic.
