After symbols, transformations are the feature that most maximizes the possibilities of a single graphics object. Whereas symbols allow you to reuse an object multiple times within a document, transformations allow you to modify the existing coordinate system of an object. By moving, scaling, skewing, or rotating an object, or all (or some) of the above, a transformation can dramatically change an object's original appearance.
