Configuring Apache: httpd.conf
As of this writing, the majority of active Web servers in the world are running Apache software. It's extensively documented, actively maintained, highly versatile, quite secure (depending on how it is configured, of course), and free. The actual program name of the server is httpd, for “HTTP daemon”.
If you use Linux or any of the free BSD variants, it's almost certain that you already have a copy of Apache and don't need to download it from anywhere, although you may still want to go check out the current version if yours is very old.
