Try It Yourself

Like any language, the best way to learn SQL is to try it yourself. To do this you'll need a database and an application with which to test your SQL statements. To help you get started, Appendix A, “Sample Data Scripts,” contains the SQL statements needed to create and populate the sample database tables (and also provides instructions on downloading already populated tables). Appendix B, “Working in Popular Applications,” describes the steps needed to execute your SQL in a variety of applications. Before proceeding to the next lesson, I'd strongly suggest that you turn to these two appendixes so that you'll be ready to follow along.
