Mathematical Markup Language

Mathematics has an extensive vocabulary of symbols that can be combined in many different ways to create problems and solutions. In the past, it was very difficult to accurately express mathematical expressions on a computer. Many symbols weren't supported, and the positions weren't rendered accurately. Since even slight changes in the positions could significantly alter the interpretation of the expression, many authors simply drew their formulas by hand when writing their papers.
