Hour 5. Document Type Definitions

This hour will examine some of the basics of XML data. It will start with literal data and then move on to the Document Type Definition (DTD), which defines the structure of XML data and is the equivalent of the class template. To close the hour, some additional properties of the xmldom object will be presented.

In this hour, you'll learn the following:

  • The syntax and usage of predefined entities

  • The difference between parsed and unparsed entities

  • The syntax and purpose of the DTD

  • The syntax and reasons for separating the DTD into an external file

  • The DTD-related properties of the xmldom object
