Using WinSock to Connect to Business Objects

Windows Socket programming is a relatively mature way to communicate using TCP/IP. Socket-based programming is very old in terms of how you develop programs that work across the network. The first question is, what is a socket? It is a TCP/IP port. What is a TCP/IP port? In addition to the IP address, the port designates the service that one wants to run. Typically when using a browser to access Internet services, a prefix designates the well-known port to use. For example, http://1.2.3.4 is really calling port 80 at IP address 1.2.3.4.
