Exploring the Simple Object Application Protocol (SOAP)

Simple Object Application Protocol (SOAP) is a specification for conducting interprocess communication using XML over HTTP. SOAP is a protocol, not an API, so it can be implemented on any platform. Why is SOAP cool? To understand it, we need to discuss the two alternative IPC formats, CORBA and DCOM. Both of these formats are intended to enable objects on any system to work with objects on any other system.
