Q1: If I work with XML, will I be limiting the browsers I can reach?
A1: No, IE5 is the only browser at this time that supports native XML; however, you have the option of either using a Java class to render the XML on the client side or render the XML into HTML on the server before sending it to the client.
Q2: Where can I use the Microsoft XMLDOM?
A2: The Microsoft XMLDOM is a COM component, so it can be used anywhere that a COM component can be instantiated. This includes any Windows programming language (Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual Java, and so on), Windows Scripting Host, and anywhere that VBScript is supported (Microsoft Office 2000, Active Server Pages, and so on).
