Microsoft Transaction Server

Microsoft's definition of Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) is "a component-based transaction processing system for building, deploying, and administering robust Internet and intranet server applications." You may be asking yourself, "What does that mean?"

It means that MTS provides many features to help you build distributed applications that can incorporate transactions and scale to meet usage demands. Included with MTS are the runtime environment, which manages the transactions; the MTS Explorer graphical user interface for deploying and managing application components; application programming interfaces (API); resource dispensers; and sample applications.
