Understanding Error Messages Generated by ColdFusion

To avoid confusion, it's important to understand that ColdFusion errors come in two varieties. The first variety includes errors that come directly from ColdFusion Server and identify some problem with a template or process. The majority of these errors are the result of syntax problems, such as a misplaced </CFIF> or </CFOUTPUT> tag in your templates.

The second variety includes errors that are actually generated by components other than ColdFusion, but are passed on as ColdFusion errors to aid in development.
