Day 9. Enhancing Your Applications with Variables and If-Then Statements

In Days 6 and 7, you created a dynamic Web application capable of both input and output. In doing so, you made extensive use of variables—you used query variables to create output and form variables to pass data from one template to another. Today's lesson will introduce you to two powerful tags that use variables to control when and how data is processed.

This chapter covers

  • Using the <CFIF> tag with variables

  • Creating basic password protection with <CFIF>

  • Creating and defining ColdFusion variables

  • Using variables to create a simple counting mechanism
