Using Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access is used interactively to create and manage databases and to interact and manipulate data. A frequently overlooked feature in the Access Query designer lets you specify SQL for direct execution. This enables you to use Access to send SQL statements to any ODBC Data Source. To use this feature, do the following:

  1. Microsoft Access uses OBDC to interact with databases, so an ODBC Data Source must be present before proceeding (see the earlier instructions).

  2. Launch Microsoft Access. You will be prompted to open (or create) a database. Open any database.

  3. Select Queries in the Database window. Then click on the New button and select Design View.
