Ten (Okay, Eleven) Funky Functions

If you want to wow your friends or your boss with a few neat Sage tricks, look no further than this chapter. Here I show you how to use some of the function keys that give you some great shortcuts – for example, the copy key (F6), which speeds up processing no end, and F7, which can get you out of a tight spot if you need to insert an extra line somewhere (particularly useful if you miss a line of information from the middle of a journal).

Browsing for Help with F1

Pressing F1 launches the help system. The Sage help system is intelligent enough to know which part of Sage you're working in and displays the Help screens most suited to your needs. This saves you having to scroll through the Help index list to find the appropriate section. For example, if you're in the Batch Entry screen for suppliers, pressing the F1 key brings up a Help screen related to entering purchase invoices.

Calculating Stuff with F2

Having instant access to a calculator is pretty handy, particularly if you're in the middle of a journal and you need to add something up. Pressing F2 brings up a little calculator on the screen. You can quickly do your sums and then carry on processing information using Sage without having to dive through your office drawers to find a calculator.
